VALVE ADJUSTMENT KIT (BLUE)

Simple and efficient!

Desirable for the following SAITO motors:

• FA-30S(H) to 125a
• FA-60T to 182TD
• FA-90R3, 120R3, 170R3, 200R3, 325R5D
• FA-100Ti, 200Ti
• FG11, 14, 17, 21, 33R3

After completing the ground run-in or after running the engine for 1 hour, adjust the tappet clearance (valve lash) following the procedure to compensate for initial wear. To be done when the engine is cold.
(a) Remove the spark plug and rocker cover from the cylinder.
(b) Turn the propeller slowly by hand until the intake rocker stops. Then turn the propeller a little more to bring the piston to TDC (top dead center) of the compression stroke.
(c) Use the special wrench supplied and the allen key to adjust the clearance to a value very close to zero in the range where compression exists. If the gap is less than 0, the valve must be open in all phases so that compression does not occur (then loosen the screw to re-adjust).
After adjustment, refit the spark plug and turn the propeller to check that compression is sufficient.
(d) Checking the clearance, tighten the lock nut firmly (but not too tightly).

* In the case of car engines, a small clearance is given to the tappets to absorb valve elongation. However, for Saito engines, the clearance becomes greater during use due to thermal expansion of the cylinder (made of aluminum). The valve lash should therefore be set very close to zero when the engine is cold.

Note: Check valve clearance from time to time using this procedure. When the enclosed feeler gauge (limit gauge, t = 0.1 mm) can be inserted, the lash has increased beyond the permitted limit. Adjust to reduce lash. Valve lash is one of the most important factors in the maintenance of 4-stroke engines. Running the engine with excessive valve clearance will lead to malfunction or problems.
