Your regulator will limit the power or even switch off the drive when the minimum voltage is reached and a message is sent out via telemetry, but with a worn out, poor quality or even defective battery, the voltage balance and the actual charging capacity can vary greatly between the individual cells. Even if the nominal voltage of the battery always seems to be in the optimal range, one cell may already be completely discharged, in which case the automatic undervoltage cut-off will not work and the battery will have to continue to deliver the required current.
